| The team, yet again assembled in various locations to be picked up by minibus and headed for our first venue the National Football museum in Preston. This proved a great success as Ian demonstrated his subbuteo skills & Mike & Charlie re-enacted winning the World Cup in 1966!
With no thanks to Planty’s navigational skills, we eventually revisited the Strawberry Duck pub, which appeared to have gone downhill. Several pub stops later (including the DOG INN see below) we watched Darwen seconds play despite risking frostbite! After the obligatory curry we headed back to our digs at the Fernhurst and were all in bed by midnight- a team record! Sunday dawned to bright sunshine which in itself was a miracle. After a swifty in the Sun, Chipping we assembled at the ground to find some parts of the outfield a little boggy. Chipping had recently installed an artificial track, which made the game possible.
Dee Valley Water volunteered to bat first and opened with Jack & Ian. Jack’s hopes for an extended knock were dashed by his first delivery. Evs got carried away after hitting his first boundary & spooned the next- Dee Valley 10 for 2! A partnership of 73 by Ian & Matty steadied the ship. Ian Hall went next & Weav retired on fifty bringing the two old farts (Skip & Pete) to the crease. They eventually put on 34 with Charlie & Brian adding valuable runs in the last few overs. DVW 178 for 6
Chipping lost a couple of early wickets but looked set until Planty brought on Curtley Jones who took 4 for 26! Ian Hall also managed 2 for 12. Tony did a fine job on the boundary & Evs bowled an over! (and signaled his own wide's!) The Chipping reply closed on 112 and we retreated back to the pub for pie & peas!
Overall a good tour- thanks to all who took part.
